Toowoomba Company of Archer holds beginner courses for archers aged from about 10 to adult.  

The course is conducted over two consequtive Saturdays with the first day teaching the basics of archery.  The second day is for those wishing to join the club and gives a more in depth look at the club structure and facilities, AA and WA shooting rounds, introduction to Archers Diary, and additional information on bows and other equipment.  This is followed by your first scored OZBOW round and free practice.  There is no additional cost for the second day however archers must have signed up to Archery Australia and paid the relevant membership fee online prior to attending.  Please see the Membership & Fee’s page for costs.

Cost for the course is $80 and includes hire of bows and all equipment.

Day 1 Sign on is from 08:40am, the course commences sharply at 9:00am and takes approximately 3 hours.

Day 2 commences at 8:00am.

Please NOTE: Participants are requested to wear suitable clothing: snug fitting shirt, sun hat, and MUST have enclosed shoes.

Course Content:

Day 1

  • Introduction to the club and Target Archery
  • Types of bows and equipment
  • Equipment issue and fitting
  • Safety brief
  • Introduction to basic form (stance, nocking the arrow, holding and drawing the bow, sighting, release and follow through)
  • Shooting your first arrows
  • Form correction and practice
  • Shooting your first scoring round
  • Conlusion and free practice 
  • Free BBQ sausage at the conclusion of the days club round/OZBOW shoot

Day 2

  • Finalise membership paperwork/online sign up and issuing of membership number
  • Club orientation 
  • Introduction to AA and WA competition rounds and Archers Diary
  • Introduction to regional competitions
  • Introduction to shooting rules and archery ethics
  • Information on bows, sights and other equipment
  • First scored and registered OZBOW round
